Οι περιπέτειες του Ήλιου

                     I

Πώς βρέθηκα εδώ

που κανείς δεν  μ’ έχει σπείρει

κι όλα γύρω μου μ’ εχθρεύονται

και οι ρίζες τους

μου πίνουν τη ζωή;

Σύμφωνα με τους νόμους

της αυτοσυντήρησης

ήταν φορές που θα ’πρεπε—

πρώτος εγώ—να είχα σκοτώσει.

Μα δίσταζα.

Πώς θα το μπορούσα;

Και η ζωή κάτι τέτοια εξώβουλά της

δεν τα ανέχεται·

σε στέλλει δια μιας

στην εξορία των κάχτων

και των βράχων.

Μπορεί σποράκι

από πουλιού το στόμα να ’χω πέσει

ή από δέντρο που το πήγαιναν στη φωτιά.

Ή από κάνα όνειρο

απ’ αυτά που σε συνεπαίρνουν

κι όπου λάχει σε παρατάν

καθώς εξωγήινα

δεν γνωρίζουν τις επιπτώσεις.

The Adventures of the Sun

                     I

How did I find myself here

where no one has sown me

and all around me are enemies,

their roots

draining my life?

According to the laws

of self-preservation

there were times when I—

I first of all—should have killed.

But I hesitated.

How could I do it?

And life will not put up with

things like that, beyond her will;

she sends you at once

into an exile of cactus

and of rock.

Maybe I was a tiny seed

fallen from a bird’s beak

or from a tree they were taking to the flames.

Or from some dream—

one of those that carry you away

and discard you wherever,

since, not being of this earth,

they know not the consequences.
